From July 12 to 19, 2014, ATTA Members InterPacific Aviation and Marketing Inc./AirRussia.US and Visit Anchorage in partnership with the Russian carrier Yakutia Airlines co-sponsored a FAM trip for Russian travel agents to visit Alaska. This is a part of InterPacific Aviation’s ongoing effort to promote Alaska as a travel destination for Russians, and to encourage travel on the seasonal Alaska-Russia Far East air service that it operates utilizing Yakutia Airlines Boeing 737-700 aircraft. The agents traveled from the Russian cities of Moscow, Khabarovsk, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Vladivostok.

Margarita Babaian of America-Travel from Moscow reported, “I’m fascinated by the way Visit Anchorage put together all the small details for the tour, made our program so productive, and showed us so many travel opportunities. Both AirRussia.US and Visit Anchorage are a great encouragement for Alaska travel from international markets and I’ll do my best to be a productive partner.”

The Russian travel agents were introduced to Alaska tour operators, oriented on how to promote travel to Alaska, and acquainted with many of the tourism highlights of the region. Their program activities included jet-boating, gold panning, hiking in Denali National Park, ziplining, riding the Alaska Railroad, dogsledding on a glacier, flightseeing over Denali, soaking in Chena Hot Springs and a glacier cruise.  Travel agents were excited to experience Alaska’s tourism potential for themselves and are already are taking steps to promote Alaska to their clients.

Ziplining through Alaska’s forests was one of the most popular activities among FAM participants.

Tourism Sales Manager Jara Haas of Visit Anchorage comments, “The first Visit Anchorage Russian travel trade FAM was a huge success. I believe the agents experienced first-hand all the amazing things Alaska has to offer our international visitors. With Yakutia Airlines’ air service in place, getting Russian travelers to Alaska is easier than ever before.”
