2015 International Volcanological Field School in Katmai, Alaska and Mutnovsky/Gorely, Kamchatka

Applications are invited for the 2015 International Volcanological Field School in Katmai, Alaska (June 7-20, 2015) and Mutnovsky/Gorely, Kamchatka, Russia (August 16-29, 2015). The field school consists of two-week field trips to active volcanoes of Alaska and Kamchatka. Applications are reviewed continuously.

The International Volcanological Field School is organized jointly by the University of Alaska Fairbanks, the Kamchatka State University, the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, and Kamchatka Branch of Geophysical Survey.

The trips are scheduled for the following dates:

Katmai, Alaska on June 7-20, 2015
Mutnovsky/Gorely, Kamchatka on August 16-29, 2015

  1. Mutnovsky Volcano can be visited on a day trip from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The scenery en-route is spectacular, and the “mini-Geyser Valley” inside the crater is very impressive. Visit the Mutnovsky Geothermal Power Station on the return trip to see how souththern Kamchatka gets much of it’s power.
