City Day Celebrations, July-Sept, 2013: The following Russian Far East cities will hold their annual City Day Celebrations featuring festive events, including music festivals, performances, cooking and handicraft events, activities for children and major fireworks displays at various sites. If you want to experience Russian style celebrations, just hit the streets! Typically, when annual City Day falls on a work day, it is celebrated the following weekend.

Day of Volcano, July 11-13, 2014, Avacha Volcano, Kamchatka

In 2010, The Day of Volcano became an official holiday in Kamchatka gathering annually several thousand locals and visitors at the foot of the Avacha Volcano. The main event is the climb to the top of the Avacha volcano (2700 meters/6562 feet). Approximate time for ascending is 6-8 hours; approximate time for descending is 2.5-4 hours.

International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, August 9, 2014 & Aboriginal Day, August 9-10, 2014

The United Nations’ (UN) International Day of the World’s Indigenous People is observed on August 9 each year to promote and protect the rights of the world’s indigenous population. This event in Kamchatka will aim to promote culture of Itelmen, Koryak, Even and other indigenous peoples and recognize the achievements and contributions that they’ve made. Celebrations, concerts, and performances will be held at various facilities, native centers and villages throughout Kamchatka.

Regional Festival of Crafts, August 13-19, 2014, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Kamchatka Center of People’s Arts.
The festival will feature the work of local Kamchatkan craftspeople, workshops, exhibits, food, live entertainment and more.
International Summer School “Russia – Far East”, Vladivostok, August 11-29, 2014: The Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), Vladivostok, Russia, one of the leading higher education institutions in the Russian Far East, is offering an International Summer School “Russia – Far East” with 2 study programs:

Yakutia Diamond Week, Mirny-Yakutsk, September 2-9, 2014: Russia’s largest Republic Sakha (Yakutia) that accounts for 98% of domestic and for nearly one-third of global diamond extraction will hold Diamond Week on September 2-7, 2014. The event will be organized with the support from the Sakha Republic Government. Diamond Week will consist of a visit to the republic’s administrative center Yakutsk, and a trip to Mirny, a diamond-mining center about 800 km west of Yakusk. It’s a unique chance for participants to see the whole process with their own eyes from the extraction, grading and cutting of diamonds to how rough stones are being transformed into exquisite jewelry. Each city will also offer a range of activities, including tours to Permafrost Kingdom, an underground tourist attraction inspired by the extreme cold of Yakutia, visits to Chochur-Muran Ethnography Museum and Mammoth Museum, boat tour to Lena Pillars nature park, and more.There will be an unprecedented discount for jewelry during Diamond Week in all Yakutia jewelry shops.
